3 Biology
Course Description
Learning Area Leader: Ms C. Green.
Where did we come from and where are we going? These are the questions we will answer in this course. We will research innovative methods for pest control, and explore how our bodies maintain a stable environment. We will focus on looking at the evidence for evolution and the connections between different species. A practical project will perfect your scientific investigation skills. We will consider the biological evidence for human evolution followed by the cultural advancements that took us to where we are today. If you want to know more about the history of yourself, and of the animals and plants around you, then this is the course for you.
Skills/content you will cover in this course
Speciation, mutations, gene flow, natural selection and patterns of evolution
Significant events in human evolution
How our internal body copes with fluctuations through homeostasis
Practical investigation skills
Researching the impact of controversial biology on society.
Skills you need to be successful in this course - learners should have a background knowledge in Biology, especially of genetic ideas. The completion of any Science at Level 2 will prepare them adequately for the practical investigative internal standard. A good level of literacy is required as the content involves considerable reading and longer written answers.
This course is useful for or will lead to - professions and future studies that Biology can lead to include health sciences, environmental and ecological studies, animal and plant biology, immunology, biochemistry, genetics, veterinary science, and further research.
Recommended Prior Learning
