Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Mrs M. Millar.
Through studying Artworks in the field of Painting, learners will learn to find and follow their own unique artistic pathway inspired by modern and contemporary artists and their work. Learners will gain transferable life skills of learning how to learn through artist model analysis and time management through large projects. Visual literacy gained through conceptual and visual problem-solving allows a unique lens through which to contribute to future work environments.
Learners will present their work in an Artist's Workbook and Artist External Portfolio*.
Learners can choose a maximum of two Visual Arts subjects at Level 3.
*The External Portfolio Submission is worth 14 credits and a UE subject basket.
Course Overview
Term 1
Artist model research and artwork production.
Term 2
Painting/artmaking techniques, artwork production and internal assessments assessed.
Term 3
Artwork production towards external.
Term 4
Artwork production towards external and external assessment due.
Recommended Prior Learning
Learning within senior levels of 1 & 2 of the Visual Arts would be an advantage. Consultation with Learning area leader would be required if the above courses haven't been undertaken.

Course-related Art Kits are able to be purchased from National Art Supplies. (https://www.naskits.co.nz/kits-for-2023/rolleston-college-2023/) Items may need to be replenished throughout the year depending on learner use. *Costs may change for 2024.
While the same items can be purchased separately from other art suppliers, we believe the quality of the items and the fact that the pack is individually labelled, delivered to school and ready for the start of the school year provides excellent value for money and convenience.
