Course Description

Learning Area Leader: Mrs M. Millar.

This is a practical art making course within the Visual Arts field of Painting. Through self directed and teacher lead analysis of paint based artworks learners will unpack modern and contemporary artworks to create their own body of paint based artworks presented in a Painter's workbook and Portfolio presentation of finished works.


Skills/content you will cover in this course 

  • How to see and think about the world like an artist

  • How to create a body of artwork like a painter

  • A deeper understanding of different painting methods, techniques and conventions  

  • Understanding and reading of paint based artworks

  • Contemporary Paint based practices through class lead discussions and individual mentoring.

Skills you need to be successful in this course - Be curious, bring a work ethic, be open to constructive feedback and willing to try it, be willing to learn from mistakes and be able to work independently. 

This course is useful for or will lead to - a tertiary pathway in the fine art or creative industries leading to a career or work as an artist, graphic designer, art curator, community arts coordinator, web developer/designer, in the film or game industries. Learning to look, think and create like an artist leads to a unique set of anaylsis and problem solving skills that is sought-after in the modern work place. 

Recommended Prior Learning

Learning within senior levels of 1 & 2 of the Visual Arts would be an advantage. Consultation with Learning Area Leader would be required if the above courses haven't been undertaken.
