9 Outdoor Education (Term Two)

Course Description

Learning Area Leader: Mr A. Gebbie.

The Year 9 Outdoor Education taster course offers an introduction to essential outdoor skills, preparing students for future outdoor adventures. This course is conducted on-site at school and lasts for one term. 


Skills/content you will cover in this course 

  • Trip planning

  • Map reading

  • Teamwork

  • Risk management

  • Weather interpretation

  • Knot tying

  • Other basic outdoor skills necessary for safe and enjoyable outdoor adventures.


Skills you need to be successful in this course - a keen interest in learning about outdoor activities, willingness to participate, and a positive attitude towards developing new skills. 

This course is useful for or will lead to - building foundational skills for outdoor adventures, preparing for advanced outdoor education courses in later years, and developing a basic understanding of essential outdoor skills and safety practices. 

Recommended Prior Learning

Competence in managing personal behaviour in the classroom and engaging with learning.
