Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Mr A. Gebbie.
Students will develop advanced technical skills in mountain biking, tramping, and rock climbing, and deepen their understanding of the Māori perspective on the natural world. They will gain in-depth knowledge about local iwi's significant places, history, and kaitiakitanga, and develop a nuanced appreciation of Te Taiao and the interconnection between people in the natural world.
This course is an excellent opportunity to prepare for potential careers in guiding, stewardship, DOC, instructing, or environmental science while exploring the majestic beauty of New Zealand's great outdoors.
This course will include trips outside normal school hours including multi day and overnight trips.
You will need to provide your own serviced mountain bike and helmet that is fit for purpose.
Please note this course will involve regular offsite trips in the afternoon after school finishes. The dates and times will be confirmed when the course starts.
Additional Course Specific Contributions & Equipment/Stationery
This course includes a range of Field Trips at a cost of $320 to deepen and reinforce learning. * Course cost to be added to statements at the start of course.
Learners will be expected to assist with and supply their own property (Mountain Bike, Bike Helmet, Appropriate Footwear for Tramping, Quick dry shorts and T Shirts) for overnight and day trip excursions

You will be assessed in this course through all or a selection of the standards listed below.
Total Credits Available: 17 credits.
