Course Description

Learning Area Leader: Mrs A. Evans.

Learners who choose this course will enjoy working with written texts.  They will analyse a novel and write an essay in the NZQA examinations as well as anaylsing other visual and written texts and communicating their understanding.  


Skills/content you will cover in this course 

  • Essay writing

  • Analysis of written and visual texts

  • Creative and formal writing.


Skills you need to be successful in this course - a good level of literacy is needed as there will be analysis of texts and essay writing.  The writing standard needs a good knowledge of writing techniques.  Learners are also required to read a novel independently. 

This course is useful for or will lead to - this course is aimed at helping learners to improve their English skills, especially in being able to communicate ideas. 


* Please note learners cannot take 2 Written English and 2 Visual English as they contain some of the same Achievement Standards *

Recommended Prior Learning

To be successful Learners should have gained Level 1 Literacy.
