9 Practical Art (Semester)

Course Description

Learning Area Leader: Mrs M. Millar.

Learners will learn about different types of Visual art, how it can be made and how it communicates meaning. The course will work within the bi-cultural context of New Zealand and look at the contemporary artists from around the world who have influenced New Zealand artists. 


Skills/content you will cover in this course 

  • Use of dry media in the creation of artworks

  • Use of wet media in the creation of artworks

  • Developing understanding of the elements and principles of art through art making and artist model research. 


This course is useful for or will lead to - Year 10 Art courses and then NCEA Visual Arts. Learning to look, think and create like an artist leads to analysis and problem solving skills that are sought-after in the modern workplace.
