3 Mechanical Engineering Technology

Course Description

Learning Area Leader: Mr F. Rzoska.

Learners will undertake a Steam Theme project where they will design and fabricate a fully functioning steam operated model (Traction Engine, Boat, Train).


Skills/content you will cover in this course 

  • Fabrication

  • Machining

  • Digital Design (CAD)

  • 3D printing

  • Metal Casting

  • Complex design and processes.


Skills you need to be successful in this course - determination, resilience and a problem solver.  Being able to work safely and independently is also important.

This course is useful for or will lead to - continuing Studies at polytechnic or University. 

Recommended Prior Learning

Mechanical Engineering in year 12 or performed very well in Mechanical Engineering in year 11. Prior experience is preferred but not essential.

Student Take Home Components. Note a full payment of course contribution will allow learners to take home any items they produce during the course. Otherwise, items remain the property of the school for community purchase at the end of year. This helps to replace course materials.

General Stationery. Students would though benefit from a laptop that is capable of running current Fusion 360 and Autodesk Inventor. (No cost for software). Please note there are limited school laptops available for in class use.
