Course Description
Learning Area Leader: Mrs M. Millar.
Learners who can play an instrument will enjoy the practical aspect of this course by participating in the Solo and group performance standards. There is also an opportunity to conduct research into a music topic of their choice and to compose music of their own on either a music notation programme or a D.A.W.

Performance etiquette
Performing to an audience
Learning about the research process
Using programmes such as Noteflight and Soundtrap to compose original music.
Skills you need to be successful in this course - at least five years experience playing an instrument. Composition, computer and research skills.
This course is useful for or will lead to - those who would like to study music or sound tech at a tertiary level. Those who would like to keep developing the right side of their brain.
*Note - there are three compulsory Achievement Standards in this course and then learners will choose one further standard based on their experience and area of expertise *
Recommended Prior Learning
Successfully completed Level 2 Music and have at least 5 years of music tuition on their chosen instrument.
Additional Course Specific Contributions & Equipment/Stationery
The College has a variety of well-maintained Instruments for Hire at an extra cost of $20 per term. Usually instruments are hired by learners taking a Music course or Instrument tuition; however, it may be possible for other College learners to hire instruments if they are wishing to use them in one of our performance groups.
Please note any extra curricular Performing Arts activities may incur an optional additional cost of between $50 - 100.
Credit Information
You will be assessed in this course through all or a selection of the standards listed below.
