Course Description

Learning Area Leader: Ms A. Mansfield.

Students will have the opportunity to develop understanding of the links between language, culture, and identity. Learning about culture through Gagana Sāmoa allows students to develop awareness of their own identity, including how it is shaped and evolves. While every student brings a different level of prior language and knowledge of culture, studying a subject that values and celebrates their identity, language, and culture can support the wellbeing of students and their community. 


Skills/content you will cover in this course 

  • Develop skills in listening, speaking,reading and writing

  • Communicate and connect meaningfully with Gagana Samoa speaking communities.


Skills you need to be successful in this course - students are encouraged to take ownership of their own learning and work together with others.They can gain confidence in their independent study skills and strengthen collaborative skills to develop their language and culture knowledge.

The ability to communicate in additional languages offers students new opportunities and shows commitment to learning and interest in the world around them.
