Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mrs M. Darroch.

People are constantly confronted with data and the need to make choices and decisions from the raw data they receive.  Phones deliver information about traffic, we have ratings about restaurants or books, and even rankings of hospitals.  Parents can obtain complex information about the high schools they want their children to go to. Data is everywhere, our lives are governed by numbers, we need to know the appropriate methods of thinking, analysing and making sense of data.

This course will build on the Statistics work you have done in Level 2..  It will encourage you to question what you see in the data and critically evaluate others’ reports.  You will continue to develop an appreciation of variation and understanding of risks and relative risks.  Your sound statistical reasoning will cross over and complement work in your other subjects.

Our aim is to give you the statistical foundation to be able to intelligently cope with the requirements of citizenship, employment and family and to be prepared for a healthy, happy and productive life.

This Course is eligible for Subject Endorsement - students must sit all assessments, internal and external, for subject endorsement.

It is helpful for anyone wanting a career in Economics, Farm Management, Data analyst, Investment, Political Scientist, Scientist or Researcher. In fact most careers will have an element of Statistics in them.
