2 Physics

Course Description

Learning Area Leader: Ms C. Green.

This course is designed for those who intend to carry on for Physics at Level 3 and/or those who need it for their career. Physics entails understanding about the world and how physics is applied, specifically within the fields of Mechanics, Electricity and Nuclear Physics. This course also teaches learners to conduct practical investigations to determine non-linear relationships between variables.

Skills/content you will cover in this course

  • Physics in Mechanical Systems

  • Electricity and Electromagnetism

  • Conducting a practical investigation determining a non-linear relationship

  • Exploring and reporting on physics in a context

  • Nuclear Physics.

Skills you need to be successful in this course - ideally students have a strong background in mathematics, including a working knowledge of algebra/rearrangement and trigonometry. Students should be competent at literacy (reading, writing) and researching, particularly for the internals. It would also be advantageous for students to have some prior physics knowledge from NCEA L1.

This course is useful for or will lead to - professions that physics can lead to include: engineering (mechanical, civil, electrical etc.), various trades (electrician, construction, plumber, welders, mechanics), computer science, AI, health sciences (medicine, physiotherapy), aircraft pilot, software engineering, animation and game development, transport etc

Recommended Prior Learning

Fundamental Maths Skills (algebra, trigonometry). Any Level 1 Science

Additional Course Specific Contributions & Equipment/Stationery

The sciPAD Workbooks are a compulsory requirement for this course and will be charged to learner accounts. This will be approximately $30.
