2 Outdoor Education

Course Description

The Level 2 Outdoor Education course focuses on developing outdoor skills and connecting with natural spaces through a Māori perspective, enhancing students' appreciation of the interconnection in the natural world. 


Skills/content you will cover in this course 

  • Technical skills in mountain biking, overnight tramping and rock climbing

  • Understanding the Māori perspective on the natural world

  • Exploring the principles of Te Taiao

  • Learning about the interconnection between all elements in nature.


Skills you need to be successful in this course - basic outdoor skills and experience in activities like mountain biking, tramping, or rock climbing, moderate physical fitness, teamwork, resilience, problem-solving, and a positive attitude towards outdoor activities and challenges. 

This course is useful for or will lead to - careers in outdoor guiding, environmental stewardship, Department of Conservation (DOC) roles, outdoor instructing, and environmental science; foundational skills for further study or training in outdoor education and related fields.

Additional Course Specific Contributions & Equipment/Stationery

This course includes a range of Field Trips at a cost of $350.00 to deepen and reinforce learning. * Course cost to be added to statements at the start of course.
Learners will be expected to assist with and supply their own property (Mountain Bike, Bike Helmet, Appropriate Footwear for Tramping, Quick dry shorts and T Shirts) for overnight and day trip excursions
