Course Description
This course covers food safety, knife skills, and cooking for cafe sales, as well as collaborating with charities for community food provision, emphasizing sustainability and cultural values. Participants will also learn basic nutrition and coffee cultivation, including hands-on experience with commercial espresso machines. This is a Unit Standard course.
Skills/content you will cover in this course
Introduction to knife skills and safety.
Knowledge of food safety and hazards in a commercial kitchen setting
Introduction and basic use of an espresso machine
Being able to serve coffee to staff members
Basic cooking skills of salads, baking and international dishes.
Skills you need to be successful in this course - Willingness to give things a go. Time management skills. Ability to work independently as well as in a group
This course is useful for or will lead to - At school students can continue to study 3HOSP and 3KAI. At the tertiary level students can continue to study cookery, hospitality, food and beverage service, travel and tourism, nutrition, food science, and food technology
