Course Description
Learning Area Leader: Mrs M. Millar.
Learners will develop practical design art making skills within the field of design through theoretical and practical unpacking of design conventions from contemporary design practice. A body of design artwork will be created solving the design problem of branding a new cafe in the Selwyn environment. Branding artwork will be presented in a designer's workbook and design portfolio of finished works.

How to see and think about the world like an artist
How to create a body of artwork like a designer
An understanding of different design methods, techniques and conventions through practical application and analysis.
Skills you need to be successful in this course - be curious, bring a good work ethic, be open to constructive feedback and willing to try new things, learn from mistakes and be able to work independently. Good time management skills are essential.
This course is useful for or will lead to - this course will lead to a level 3 art course and a tertiary pathway in design or the creative industries leading to a career or work as an artist, graphic designer, art curator, community arts coordinator, web developer/designer, in the film or game industries. Learning to look, think and create like an artist leads to a unique set of anaylsis and problem solving skills that is sought-after in the modern work place.

Students would benefit from having their own DSLR camera, camera bag and SD card for external folio work. * There are limited school cameras available for learner use.
A laptop that is capable of running current Adobe Creative Cloud software would be beneficial.
Adobe Creative Cloud software is available to purchase from the school $10.00 for students enrolled in this course.
