1 Photo Design and Moving Image
Course Description
Learning Area Leader: Mrs M. Millar.
Learners will explore the Visual Arts through a series practical and theoretical investions across the fields of photography, design and sculpture exploring the local and wider Selwyn environment. Presentation of learning will be via artist workbooks, finished artworks portfolios and class exhibition.
Skills/content you will cover in this course
Develop drawing skills with wet and dry media plus mixed media practices
Investigate Maori Tikanga around Mahinga Kai and it's significance for Selwyn
Practical understanding of artist workbook practices
Practical understanding of the creation of finished artworks and portfolio presentations.
Skills you need to be successful in this course - previous photography experience. Be curious! - Bring a work ethic. Be open to constructive feedback and willing to try it. Be willing to learn from your mistakes. Good time management skills.
This course is useful for or will lead to - this course will lead to a level 2 art course and a tertiary pathway in the fine art or creative industries leading to a career or work as an artist, graphic designer, art curator, community arts coordinator, web developer/designer, in the film or game industries. Learning to look, think and create like an artist leads to a unique set of anaylsis and problem solving skills that is sought-after in the modern work place.
* Please note - Learners need to choose between Let’s Make Art or Photo Design & Moving Image and cannot take both courses*
Recommended Prior Learning
Learning within junior painting & drawing/photo design of the Visual Arts would be an advantage. Consultation with Learning Area Leader would be required if the above courses haven't been undertaken.

Course-related Art Kits are required in this course and will be purchased by the school and charged to learner accounts. This will be approximately $45.
