Course Description

Learning Area Leader: Mrs M. Darroch.

This is a mathematics course rich in both Mathematics and Statistics so learners are able to prepare for any higher level Mathematics and Statistics that they would like. 


Skills/content you will cover in this course 

  • 1.1 Internal covering Statistical Investigations either comparing 2 variables (Bivariate) or 3 variables (Multivariate) and writing a report on your findings

  • 1.2 Internal covering Numeracy, Measurement and Geometry and Space skills intertwined in a context

  • 1.3 External covering statistical and graphical representations of a context and critique them in a real world context

  • 1.4 External covering Algebra skills and also looking at quadratics and exponentials in a context to find or form equations to answer questions.


Skills you need to be successful in this course - Following set instructions on how to set up work according to mathematics conventions. Connecting or justifying why variables or quantities seem reasonable and how it relates to the real world. Critiquing statistical reports including writing their own to discuss assumptions or limitations of data or sample sets. Following steps to write or find equations for graphs and algebra. Communicate findings in sentences. 

This course is useful for or will lead to - All Level 2 Maths courses.


**Please note that learners can only take ONE maths course in Year 11**

Successfully gained Literacy and Numeracy credits in Year 10.
