1 Food Product Design - Hangarau Kai
Course Description
Learning Area Leader: Mr F. Rzoska.
Students will research and evaluate the environmental impacts of food production to develop a sustainable food product suitable for sale at the school canteen. Students will also collaborate with local community groups and charities to prepare kai using sustainable practices to provide for those in need and receive authentic customer feedback. This is a theory rich achievement standards course with kitchen practical lessons to supplement learning.
Skills/content you will cover in this course
Learn to critically think and evaluate problems
Use and follow the design process to create products from idea generation through to launch
Learn about what it means to be a sustainable food citizen
Develop a product suitable for the freezer that local community charities can give to those in need
Learn about different ingredients and how they can be used in bread making.
Skills you need to be successful in this course - a good level of literacy is required as students are required to research and write reports and critical thinking.
This course is useful for or will lead to - at school students can continue the food pathway into 2KAI or 2HOSP.
**Please note that learners can only choose 1KAI or 1HOSP, not both**
