Learners will explore different models of health and wellbeing. They will explore factors that influence hauora (wellbeing) and strategies to enhance hauora (wellbeing) through a range of health-related contexts.
Skills/content you will cover in this course
Research skills and essay writing
Critical thinking - surrounding social constructs, power imbalances, biases, and assumptions that impact hauora
Topics in this course include drugs and alcohol, investigating and participating in a range of stress management tools/strategies (ie yoga, breathwork, meditation), and relationships and sexuality education.
Skills you need to be successful in this course - a good level of literacy skills is required as learners will need to research, write essays and be successful in one external examination. Critical thinking is key in a senior Health course.
This course is useful for or will lead to - this course is aimed at learners who enjoy research and thinking critically in the realm of health and health related issues. This course is designed to build Health Education knowledge at NCEA.
