2 Practical Art

Course Description

Learning Area Leader: Mr R. Ferguson.

Learners will develop practical art making skills within the fields of sculpture and printmaking through theoretical and practical unpacking of contemporary sculpture and printmaking conventions. Artworks will created in two bodies of artwork presented in artists workbooks of sculpture and printmaking. 


Skills/content you will cover in this course 

  • How to see and think about the world like an artist

  • How to create a body of artwork like a sculptor and printmaker

  • An understanding of different sculpture and printmaking methods, techniques and conventions through practical application and analysis.


Skills you need to be successful in this course -  Be curious! Bring a work ethic. Be open to constructive feedback and willing to try it. Be willing to learn from your mistakes. Good time management skills. 

This course is useful for or will lead to - this course will lead to a level 3 art course and a tertiary pathway in  the creative industries leading to a career or work as an artist, photographer, graphic designer, art curator, community arts coordinator, web developer/designer, in the film or game industries. Learning to look, think and create like an artist leads to a unique set of anaylsis and problem solving skills that is sought-after in the modern work place. 

Recommended Prior Learning

Learning within senior level 1 or junior art of the Visual Arts would be an advantage. Consultation with Learning area leader would be required if the above courses have not been undertaken.

Course-related Art Kits are required in this course and will be purchased by the school and charged to learner accounts. This will be approximately $45.
