3 Media Studies

Course Description

Learning Area Leader: Mrs A. Evans.

Learners in this course are concentrating on the theory of media studies through analysis and critical thinking.  They will use different types of media to better understand our society, they will also be conducting a genre study and writing an essay in the NZQA examinations.

  • Formal writing skills.


Skills you need to be successful in this course - a high level of literacy skills is required as there is a high level of reading and writing expected.  There is also the expectation of writing an essay in the NZQA examinations. 

This course is useful for or will lead to - this course is aimed at learners who are wanting to improve their skills in preparation for further tertiary study or have an interest in Media Studies as a learning area. 


* Please note Learners cannot take 3 Media Studies and 3 Lights, Camera, Action due to some the same Achievement Standards being used in both courses *

Recommended Prior Learning

If you are wanting to take this course it is recommended that you have Achieved in any of the Level 2 Media Studies or English courses.
