1 Building and Construction (1BUILD1)
Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Mr S. Van Garderen
Students will learn to work with a range of materials and tools as they discover basic skills required in the construction and trade industry. Working with both hand and power tools students will learn safety in the workshop and tool maintenance. Building an outside chair and sawhorse will be the two main projects with a focus more on practical skills with a small amount of written work to reinforce what is being learnt. This course is designed for learners of all abilities.
Recommended Prior Learning
It is recommend that students have completed the Y11 Construction course however students who have performed well in the junior school may be considered on consultation with Mr Van Garderen

● Student Take Home Components. Note a full payment of course contribution will allow learners to take home any items they produce during the course. Otherwise items remain the property of the school for community purchase at the end of year. This helps to replace course materials.
● Dedicated learner laptop (Chrome book suitable) with learners own headset recommended.

To keep costs low, we recommend only buying the items of stationery you do not have. Your child is welcome to bring items from home, perhaps purchased in previous years and repurposed to save money. This could include erasers, headphones, scientific calculators and padlocks for the lockers if they already have one.
