1 English - Heroes and villains
Course Description
With a focus on storytelling, this course offers learners the chance to read, view and write creative texts, as well as analyse the ideas within them. From traditional heroes and villains, to modern twists on these classic character types, jump into the exciting world of good versus evil. Explore how, even in the most evil of villains, there can lurk some good, some regret, some pain, some heartbreak... And how, even in the most saintly of heroes, can hide some evil, some jealousy, some vanity and ego... Study texts that are both modern (think Marvel) and classic (think Maui). Assessment in this course is mostly internal, with one assessment graded externally.
Internally learners will analyse the language used in different speeches as well as critically analyse written and verbal text. Their external is the creation of a portfolio of writing. By completing these assessments learners will achieve their NCEA literacy requirement.
This course is for learners who want to continue to develop their English skills with the possibility of further study.
Learners can only select ONE English course.
